Launched in 2023 as a pilot initiative, 25 large industrial customers participated in Focus on Energy’s Annual Planning Incentive (API). This successful offering has prompted its extension into 2024, ensuring continued support for large industrial entities seeking to enhance their energy efficiency.
“The API offers a simple, effective way for large industrial customers to ensure Focus on Energy technical resources and financial incentives are included in their energy efficiency planning efforts,” Nate Altfeather, large industrial program manager — Focus on Energy, said.
Working with their designated Focus on Energy adviser and We Energies account manager, large industrial customers can receive $2,500, simply by completing the API workbook and submitting it with the API application form.
Since 2022, schools and government institutions have actively embraced the Project Planning offering, with 320 customers enrolling and receiving bonuses exceeding $270,000 across 540 projects. An additional 350 projects are in the pipeline for the next five years, fueled by Focus on Energy incentives.
The Project Planning workbook serves as a comprehensive guide identifying energy efficiency opportunities with rough energy-saving estimates, implementation timelines and anticipated Focus on Energy project incentives. These planning incentives serve as a catalyst for customers, encouraging them to fully use available resources in all of their energy efficiency efforts. Fostering an effective, ongoing relationship with their Focus on Energy adviser and We Energies account manager will help ensure incentives are included in capital planning decisions.
The large industrial API application must be signed by a senior facility manager, indicating they’ve reviewed the API workbook and understand the available Focus on Energy funding. The $2,500 API incentive is issued upon receipt of the signed API application and API workbook. Issuance of the API incentive is not dependent on project implementation.
“Many of the original participants are using the API workbook as the foundation for an energy team and agenda for regular meetings,” Altfeather said.
For schools and government entities engaged in the Project Planning offering, a 10% bonus incentive is granted on top of standard incentives upon successful project implementation. The workbook, completed by the customer, provides essential data on the equipment’s anticipated return on investment, facilitating the selling of efficiency projects to leadership and managing boards. Return on investment calculations, often requested in Focus on Energy evaluation reports, add substantial value to the other otherings from Focus on Energy and are frequently requested by customers.
