Focus on Energy: Project assessment incentive extended

focus on energy pai

Dozens of Wisconsin businesses as varied as paper manufacturers and food processors have taken advantage of Focus on Energy's project assessment incentive (PAI) to help them identify, assess and pursue energy-saving projects. The PAI provides up to $15,000 for in-depth cost and savings analysis of complex energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, including biogas and biomass. This incentive supports businesses in making informed decisions before committing to investments in these energy solutions.

The application process is straightforward and requires submission of a proposal to Focus on Energy that includes the following:

  • A clear statement outlining what is being assessed and the rationale for the assessment.
  • A detailed scope of the work to be performed.
  • The total study cost.
  • A preliminary estimate of annual energy savings, based on available data regarding the opportunity being assessed.

Approval of the application is required before initiating the assessment, and approval is not guaranteed. The incentive is capped at 50% of the study cost or 20% of the estimated annual energy savings, whichever is lower.

To receive the incentive, a comprehensive study report must be submitted to Focus on Energy prior to payment. The final report should include:

  • A summary of findings.
  • A statement of project feasibility.
  • Estimated energy savings, supported by calculations.
  • Collected raw and refined data.
  • Estimated project implementation costs.

Focus on Energy anticipates that studies funded through the PAI will provide businesses with the confidence needed for securing project capital approval, while also supplying Focus on Energy with critical information to support the project with a financial incentive.
