We Energies electric rates include the cost of fuel used to generate electricity. The price is set by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) when it approves the fuel cost plan for the upcoming year. The actual price of fuel fluctuates throughout the year. The variation in cost is evened out with a fuel cost adjustment (FCA). Depending on whether it’s a year with higher or lower fuel prices, the FCA can be a charge or credit for customers.
In 2024, the actual cost of fuel was lower than projections. As a result, electric customers of We Energies will receive a bill credit in September of 2025. The FCA rates were approved by the PSCW and are based on electric rate class. The exact dollar amount of each customer’s refund will vary based on electric use in September 2025. The credit will show up on bills in September and October based on the account’s billing cycle.
